About Dr. Mitchell
Dr. Mitchell is a Board-Certified Allergist/Immunologist with 18 years of experience in private practice. He has been described as a cross between Dr. Mehmet Oz (some patients say he looks like him and has his bedside manner) and Dr. Gregory House – the TV medical sleuth solving the toughest cases. Because of the latter, he is fondly referred to as “The Allergy Detective“. In reality, he spends a lot of time with his patients helping them find ways to feel better and achieve a better quality of life.
Dr. Mitchell’s expertise
- He is a leading expert in sublingual allergy immunotherapy (allergy drops). He has written a book on this topic, Dr. Dean Mitchell’s Allergy and Asthma Solution (Marlowe Co.).
- He is an asthma specialist, who utilizes the latest breathing techniques, including exhaled nitric oxide in determining if a patient with asthma needs continuous inhaled or oral steroids.
- He is also a food allergy expert, using the latest skin and blood testing to determine the severity of food allergies in adults and children.
- Dr. Mitchell is a true medical detective when evaluating dermatological rashes. He uses an extensive set of patch tests (no needles) to determine if any chemicals in your soaps, shampoos, cosmetic products or work environment are the underlying cause.
When Dr. Mitchell is not in his office, he can be found teaching medical students at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York City or lecturing physicians on the latest developments in the field of allergy and asthma.
He shares his office with his wife, Dr. Ricki Mitchell, a specialist in Alternative and Complementary Medicine. Visit her website

What Doctors say about Dr. Mitchell
“I was so impressed with Dr. Mitchell’s expertise that I referred my daughter to his care, and saw him as a patient myself. Both of us improved dramatically with sublingual immunotherapy.
I frequently referred patients to allergist Dr. Dean Mitchell during the eleven years I practiced internal medicine in Manhattan from 1997-2008. During that time, I was greatly impressed by Dr. Mitchell’s successful use of sublingual immunotherapy in my patients. I think that Dr. Mitchell was, at the time, one of very few allergists in this country who used this treatment.
Many improved dramatically with this treatment, reducing their need for medications, and none reported any side effects from it. My patients were very receptive to this treatment, and were far more compliant with it than patients usually are with allergy shots.
Dr. Mitchell is a superb physician, who provided patients in my practice with thoughtful, expert consultation. I highly recommend Dr. Mitchell as an excellent allergist, and as an expert in the use of allergy drops.
